I ran across this problem when moving my Playstation 3 from my parents house to my house. I don't have an HD-TV(yet!!). So when I brough it over from my parents house (who have HDMI), to my TV (composite connection), the TV would just be blank.
This was because I had set the PS3 to output HDMI at my parents house, but forgotten to switch it to composite before bring it over to my house. So driving blind, I would never be able to find the menu to reset it.
By Sony had already though of this problem and there is an easy solution:
- Make sure the system is off.
- Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
- That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.
Simple!!
Update - If this didn't solve the problem, take a look at my updated list of solutions to get your PS3 working again!!

Turns out it was working just fine the problem was that I use RCA cable (red white yellow) Someone (probably the 4yo dauther of my roommate) turned the input to Composite, so my PS3 was working fine, what I had to do is switch the TV input to RCA mode instead of Composite. Think of that before trowing it out the window.

Now turn it on and you should be good to go and just answer yes to all the prompts.

I played Resident Evil 5 with a HDMI to DVI cable for weeks and then it stopped. i only got a blurry screen when loading unless i went back to analog. I switched out the disks, didn't work. I switched out the PS3, didn't work. the only thing left is to say that the DVI is messing the programming up on the disk. Is this possible?

It came on finaly! i try everything i even try to restore my system tht was a BAD IDEA!!!! IT DELETE EVERYTHING... THTS ALL I HAVE TO SAY KNOW. THNXS WAS AGAIN
