After our trip to Munnar and our stay at Ela Ecoland, we spent two nights at Green Palace, near Alleppey Beach, which is close to the coast so the weather is warmer and more humid, and doesn’t get cold in the evening/night, like it did in Munnar. The only way to Green Palace is by boat! It is off the beaten path therefore it was relaxing and quiet – just what we wanted. The view was beautiful and the staff were very helpful. We met the owner on a boat ride from the hotel to the shore and he helped us book a houseboat for the day after new years.
Until our house boat trip, we’ve moved to a heritage home accommodation closer to the action for a change of pace. It is very close to the beach. We’ve tried two restaurants on the beach and they were both great. We also rented a scooter and checked out the area. It was a fun way to cover a lot of ground and see the beach and the town. One of the things we found was a street with a row of outdoor stalls, decorated for the New Year celebrations. We did a little bit of shopping and sight seeing. After that we had South Indian food at a “hole in the wall” place recommended by staff at our heritage home accommodation. It was exactly what we wanted and absolutely amazing. We could have eaten until our stomachs exploded. We are now relaxing in an outdoor restaurant/lounge.
